How Did We Get Started?

How Did We Get Started?

It all started with a sweater. In 2017, I loved the phrase bad and boujee but like most, I knew I was neither one of those things, which later brought on the phrase ‘Kind of bad Kind of boujee’. I flirted with the idea of making myself a sweater with my new catch phrase, but the idea died as fast as the fad did… until July 2022. The phrase and sweater had crossed my mind again while the brand - ecommerce trend was in the midst of blowing up, making custom made clothing easier than ever. As I crafted up my much desired sweater, I thought of tons of other enlightening, fun phrases that I resonated with and right there, in my boyfriend’s riverside apartment, a brand was unknowingly created.

For the following weeks, I jotted down any inspiring, quirky phrase that came to me. Phrases that I thought people would enjoy reading, that would make them feel special. That’s when I realized I was on to something so much more; a movement. A way to spread love and most importantly, a personal reminder for everyone to love themselves and those around them.

I have an unspoken love for latin words and creating business names that sound fiercely unique (like my art business BLAK Socius). So it’s absolutely no surprise that creare, latin for creating into existence, was born. Everything that we say, think, and feel creates into existence; a concept that I am so consciously aware of when putting any energy into my passions or life. And in this case, my worded phrases.

However, how could I promote a brand built on love and awareness, but not consider the carbon footprint it would leave behind? Uh-uh, can’t do that. This is when sustainability got introduced into my now monster sized project. To avoid overstock and unnecessary waste, I researched and looked through several print on demand fulfillment sources, trying to find the most beautiful, feel-good garments to represent my brand. It was important to me to have my fabrics be just as vibrational and healing as the words they carried on them.

Now over a year later, my monster project has blossomed into a fully functioning business, with its whole own personality, holding a clear vision and purpose. Humbled and grateful, it is with my absolute pleasure to properly introduce CREARE. A mindful, sustainable street wear brand that’s here for the animals, here for the earth and here for you. May you always know just how loved you are.
